We hope you had a wonderful rest over Easter! Due to all the disruption of home learning this year, Class 6 have moved their book term to Term 5 as we didn’t want the class to miss out on reading this wonderful book. We will be reading ‘Cogheart’ by Peter Bunzl.
In English, we will be developing our descriptive writing and building on our grammar and punctuation knowledge using the book as inspiration.
In maths we will be continuing with our learning of area and perimeter and then moving on to ratio. We will continue to follow White Rose as a basis for our maths learning.
In science we will be learning about living things and their habitats – looking at microorganisms and classification of all living things.
In RE we will be learning about Islam and answering the enquiry question: what does it mean to belong to a religion? This will help to develop the pupils’ understanding of other world faiths and is an important part of society.
In history we will be learning about the Victorians and looking at the inventions which were created during that period and which we still use today.
In PSHE, we will be looking at the topic ‘Relationships’ and identify emotions linked with different types of relationships. We will look at real life and online scenarios and discuss ways to stand up for ourselves.
In French we will be continuing to practise our pronunciation of key words and phrases in French, relating to the unit of our homes and families.
In art we will be creating our own mechanimals based on the book Cogheart – we will be developing our close observational drawing skills.
In PE we will be swimming each week and developing our skills of the different strokes. At school, our outside PE lessons will focus on athletics.
We are excited to announce that we are organising Year 6 Leavers’ Hoodies! These will cost £7 each (Thank you to the PTA for subsidising the cost!!) and are available in a range of sizes. The hoodies will be light grey with their initials printed on the front. The reverse will be printed with the names of the Y6 children in the shape of a 21 with the word ST. MARY’S LEAVERS in black. We need permission for your child’s name to appear on the back of the hoody – please return the letter to school as soon as possible so that we can order them.
