History

At St Mary's, it is our intent to provide a high-quality history education to help our pupils gain a coherent knowledge and understanding of Britain’s past and that also of the wider world. We want to inspire our children's curiosity to know more about the past. Our implementation will include equipping pupils to ask perceptive questions, think critically, weigh evidence, sift arguments, and develop perspective and judgement. Through history, we will help our pupils to understand the complexity of people’s lives, the process of change and the legacies from significant historical periods, the diversity of societies and relationships between different groups, as well as their own identity and the challenges of their time. We will not only measure the impact through our pupils ability to recall key events and dates, know significant people and be able to discuss these using accurate and specific vocabulary but also through their enjoyment and enthusiasm for the subject and the thirst to find out more.
