Religious Education

Our vision is that through a positive, caring environment, we provide the opportunity for every child to reach their full potential. We embrace Christian values and support children in their next steps.

At St. Mary’s, children will have the opportunity to explore how individuals and communities make meaning and sense of their lives through the study of major religions around the World. This enables pupils to know about, understand and respond to the important and ultimate questions of life. RE is taught in such a way that it inspires pupils to explore, develop and affirm their own faith and values and have respect for the faith, beliefs and values of others. We aim to ensure RE lessons support and strengthen the vision, ethos and both Christians and British values which are at the heart of what we aim to do in every aspect of school life. The importance is placed on the development of the whole child: spiritually, morally, socially, culturally and intellectually.

St Mary’s follows Jigsaw RE and the resource Understanding Christianity is used to supplement the planning and teaching of religion across all classes.

Our knowledge organisers give children the 'bigger picture' of a topic as well as providing them with the key vocabulary needed to understanding the learning.
Each term's knowledge organisers are available on each class page.
