Home Learning Week 2

Wednesday 1st April

Dear All,

What a strange couple of weeks! I hope that you have survived the week at home and are getting used to our new way of life.

To support you in your new role of ‘home schooling’ your child, I will update online activities weekly on Purple Mash and Mathletics.  It would also be great if you could continue working through the activities on White Rose  These will focus on the areas of Literacy and Maths and will be designed so that the children will still cover areas we would have covered had we still been open.

I am aiming to make the activities easy to do at home and hopefully appealing for the children - and adults - as I do rely on your support to enable the children to get the most out of the tasks. As the activities are completed on Purple Mash, I can mark them and will always leave a comment. Where necessary, I will reset an activity if it would benefit your child have another go at it.

It would also be great if you could do some sort of daily reading activity. There are some links below for reading resources. Together, you could also have a go at reading picture books you already have at home, recipe books, packaging labels etc. I would like to bring your attention to the Oxford Owl link as there are lots of reading ebooks with the option of audio too. Some of the books are phonics based with specific sounds and words to practise. This will be invaluable for their progress or just maintenance of what they have already learnt. I have registered as a teacher but there is an option to register as a parent. I hope you find it straightforward. The books are arranged according to ages but if your child needs something more or less challenging, choose a different age group. Please take a look if you can as I think this is a good source.

Having said all of this, I am fully aware that everyone’s home situation is different. These are very unusual times and if you are struggling with getting your child to do these activities then stop and find another time later. Let them know that I look several times daily to monitor their online learning and I will make contact - usually via Purple Mash - when I have 'marked' it.

We are preparing some new work packs for after the Easter holidays for all to do as well as online learning. There will not be any new work set for the holidays so children can catch up on what has already been set or just to have some fun and eat Easter eggs!

I have had a go at reading one of our favourite stories The Smeds and The Smoos and posting it on the Class 1 web page. I found it strangely nerve-wracking and will not be getting a call from CBeebies anytime soon! I will post another one soon and try to be more relaxed!

Please contact me via email on Purple Mash (just search 2email on the PM site) and I will try to help with any queries.

Take care all and Happy Easter.

Mrs Roberts
